If you would like to see your wallpaper on thousands of desktops (including on machines used at NASA and CERN) and also win a cool, compact, eco-friendly computer, you are in the right place.

The KDE community is looking for a beautiful wallpaper for the next version of our Plasma desktop, so we decided to organise a competition. This is it.

The winner will have their wallpaper included as the default background on KDE's upcoming Plasma 5.16 desktop. You will not only earn the admiration of thousands of Plasma users, but you will also win a very cool Slimbook One computer.

Design a brand new wallpaper, create a new topic in this very subforum and post a low-res version of it (see Note below) and a link to the high-res version on the image hosting service of your choice (like postimage, or imgur, or imgbb), and we will grab your design and display it on our wiki for our judges. On the 1st of June, our panel of experts will choose and publish the winning wallpaper.

When Plasma 5.16 comes out on the 11th of June, we will install it on the Slimbook One computer, and send the machine to the winner.

Note regarding previews: We don't host images locally on the forum. Upload your preview to your favorite image-hosting service and use the 'img' tags to display it. The forum allows images of up to 720px wide.

To participate, please read and follow these rules carefully:
  1. The design of your wallpaper must be original and created specifically for the contest
  2. The design of your wallpaper must be released to KDE under a copyleft license (CC By, CC By-SA), or released into the public domain or equivalent (CC0)
  3. Even if your work is not picked as the default wallpaper, your submission may still be included in Plasma 5.16 or used with future releases
  4. You can submit up to 3 entries
  5. Image files must be in PNG format, preferably accompanied by the source files in a non-proprietary format (Inkscape-compatible SVG, blend, kra, xfc, etc.)
  6. The minimum size for your submission must be 4K (3840x2160), although 5K (5120x2880) is preferred
  7. A jury made up of members of KDE's Visual Design Group (VDG) and other KDE community members will decide the winner. There will be only one winning wallpaper and the decision of the jury is final
  8. The organisers will disqualify and erase any entry that is racist, sexist, demeaning or inappropriate in any way. Disqualifications and deletions are final and cannot be recurred
  9. The deadline for submissions is midnight (UTC) on 29/05/2019

The Slimbook One v2
Our friends at Slimbook have kindly donated a Slimbook One v2 as a prize for the winning participant. The One v2 is an eco-friendly, compact machine, measuring only 12.4 x 12.8 x 3.7 cm. It comes with an i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and is capable of outputting video in glorious 4K. Naturally, your One will come decked out with the upcoming KDE Plasma 5.16 desktop, your spectacular wallpaper, and a bundle of great software made by KDE.
