Made in Blender
There are 5K 16/8 bit integer and 4K 16/8 bit integer images and mobile wallpaper with .blend source file. The style of the image were kept to be similar to the previous wallpapers. The inspiration for the wallpaper is a Grand Canyon. I felt that yellow-orange color scheme don't happen very often so it would be refreshing to see. https://gitlab.com/Kreneker/the-grand-canyon Kevin Tee |

Wow, this is so lovely, both in concept and composition. However I find myself not really being drawn to the orange color. It just feels too bright and attention-getting somehow. The real Grand Canyon's rock color is often a lot more tan and brown, and there's often at least a bit of greenery, especially at the bottom where the river runs: https://images.trvl-media.com/media/con ... -20203.jpg

I adjust the color to be more brownish using gimp gmic with help from s7habo on pixls.us.
https://discuss.pixls.us/t/need-help-ma ... nish/15568 So it would look a bit more like Grand Canyon in real life. The adjusted wallpaper is named with a suffix -brown in the gitlab repo.
I will try to find a good way to add some vegetation to it, but at the moment, the triangle with green color on it make it look a bit off... or to messy. |

Some feedback from the judges:
Contrary to popular views, I think this looks very nice without any vegetation on it. Though, I do feel that the water is a little oddly green coloured, and the way the water brightens up on contact with ground just looks 'polluted' IMHO. I think that this wallpaper has some potential, but right it's too busy and bright. I would suggest to tone down the colors a bit and make triangles colors less random so that it does not look as busy. Also, I would experiment a bit more with shadows and lighting, as that's a strong point of many other finalists. |

I agree on the too bright part. If this was chosen to be the default for 5.18, I would have to consider whether to ship this for Kubuntu 20.04 LTS. :/

I also agree that the current version is still a bit too bright and contrasty. The blue/orange contrast is really striking, but maybe a bit much. The blue seems fine, but I think the orange could benefit from going more in a naturalistic direction. The stone color of the real grand canyon is more tan/gray/brown: https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=grand+c ... B828168E73

Hi, one of the judges here.
I love the bright vibrance of the wallpaper, but it might be a bit much for others. I would probably tone down the highlights on the water and rocks to make it less eye-blindingly bright. IMO, this wallpaper is one of those that's just screaming "i change with the time of day" with its less abstract outdoors view compared to the previous wallpapers. I wonder how well it would work with changing lighting conditions? |
