KDE and LMMS are happy to announce the first ever Plasma Mobile Sound Contest!

The Big Winner will receive a stash KDE goodies, including apparel, stickers, etc. Every artist that gets at least one sound selected will have their name and work promoted on KDE's social media which is read by tens of thousands of followers, credits in Plasma Mobile, and the gratitude and admiration of the KDE Community!

Plasma Mobile, a fully free mobile environment, is a beautiful and productive way of using your Linux smartphone. CLICK HERE to see screenshots and HERE to know more about the project.

The sounds selected in this contest will be included in future versions of Plasma Mobile.

REMEMBER:

In order to participate, you first need to carefully read and agree with all the rules. You can find them HERE.

Then create a new topic by clicking HERE. Remember to make a new topic, DON'T send your submission as a reply in this announcement. In your post, include a link to the sounds on your preferred platform (SoundCloud, Youtube, etc.). Also link to the original files (like the LMMS project or presets used, read the rules for more information) on your favorite sharing platform (NextCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox...) so we can download and test them.

Don't forget to include the licensing information! If you use CC-BY or CC-BY-SA it's as simple as including this to your post: "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License." or "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License."

We will get in touch with the winners after the end of the contest. Please pay attention to comments on your submission and to private messages on the forum.

Remember to read the rules and details for more instructions!

Submit your sounds before June 13th at 11:59 PM (UTC) and become part of the mobile platform that will conquer the world!

The judges for this contest are: Sawuare, Ironsquid, ndavis, Devin Lin and Guilhermems

-----------------------------------------------

You can use the following template when making your topic:

Hello everyone! We have updated the rules of the contest a little bit in order to make them more flexible.

Changelog:

Removed rule 7 - "You must submit all the required sounds to participate. Please check the "List of Sounds" section for more information."

Removed rule 14 - "If for some reason a participant fails to submit the minimum required amount of sounds, we, the organizers, will do our best to contact them and ask for the missing parts. If the participant is unable to get the missing sounds done before the judging process begins, the entry will be disqualified."

Updated rule 4 to include only open source software for post-processing the files.

Updated the "General Recommendations" section: Added the average recommended duration for ringtones and alarms and added tip about the choice of instruments.

Added new rule - "If you use any non-free/closed source plugins or FOSS plugins with no Linux version, you must provide stems for those plugins in a lossless audio codec (e.g., WAV, FLAC, WavPack)."

Updated new rule 7 to include note talking about which samples included in LMMS should not be used.

Added F.A.Q question answering where to get copyright free samples.

We have dropped the requirement for sending all sounds. You can now choose which subset of sounds (ringtones, alarms or system events) you want to work on, meaning you are not required to send all of them.

We have also reduced the number of ringtones and alarm sounds to just one each. You can still send more than one if you want.

Rule 4 was also updated to require only open source software for post-processing. Post-processing is optional. ;)

Now you must send the stems for non-free/closed source plugins or FOSS plugins with no Linux version. Stems are basically encoding the sounds you made on the plugin in a format everyone can listen to, like WAV or FLAC. That way they can be accessed even if we don't have the plugin installed.

We've updated rule 7 listing what samples you should avoid using. We now allow CC-BY(SA) samples as long as you link to the download page where you downloaded each sample.

We also added a question to the F.A.Q answering where you can get copyright free samples.

You can read all the rules on THIS LINK.

We hope you have fun participating in this contest. ;D

Hi everyone!

The submission phase is over and now the second phase begins!

We will be using this week until June 20th to let participants that already sent their sounds update their submissions and refine their work. No more new submissions will be accepted for this contest. After that, the judges will select the sounds and choose what they consider the best sounds to win the physical prizes. Everyone else that had at least one sound selected will have their work promoted on social media if desired.

We hope you have fun, and good luck everyone! ;)
