New forum: Accessibility

Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:06 pm
The KDE Accessibility team is happy to announce that a new forum has been made available to talk about accessibility and assistive technologies.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • Discussion of accessibility issues and opportunities of various KDE technologies;
  • Discussing assistive technologies like screen readers, speech recognition and alternate input methods;
  • Providing a place for people in need of assistive technologies to share their experience and suggest improvements;

Both users and developers are welcome in the forum. If you are a user, you can ask questions on what KDE offers for specific accessibility needs, the state of using KDE Applications and Workspaces with screen readers and speech input, or on how to make the workspace use accessible color schemes and fonts. To this aim, the forum is meant to complement the information available on Userbase.

If instead you are a developer, you can use the forum to ask users on how accessible your application is, or how to make your application more accessible, and also how to make your application interact nicely with screen readers or tools such as Simon. In this case the forum complements the developer information available on KDE Techbase.

So no matter if you are an application developer looking for tips to ensure your application really works for everybody or are looking for an accessible desktop yourself: drop us a line!
