Hey everyone.
I hope this is the right place to post this... Last night I compiled KDE 4.3 on my Mandriva 2009.1 Desktop machine. Everything worked fine so far. I installed KDE 4.3 to /usr/kde. Today I removed the old KDE 4.2 packages and BOOOM all my icons were gone. But they are all in /usr/kde/share/icons. I set $KDEDIR to /usr/kde. All applications are running fine and are starting up. But simply those damns icons won't show up. I also tried to make a symbolic link from /usr/share/icons/oxygen and hicolor but that doesn't help (this was just to test if anything is wrong with the variables). I compiled kdebase completely (workspace, runtime and apps) using cmakekde. Has anyone a small hint for me? Thank you! |

Try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" as well as setting the following environmental variables. You do not need to set TRUNKINSTALLPATH or KDE_ENV_SET, and need to change KDEDIR and QTDIR as appropriate.

Thank you for your answer.
I'm building KDE not from trunk, it's 4.3 from branches. But that doesn't matter here I think. I checked everything like you said, but all these things are correct, definetely. Do you need some logs or my export-list? Edit: Just installed kdeartwork. When using the icon theme from this package I have at least a few icons . |

Just a small hint.
Why do you compile 4.3 your self, if Helio (the Mandriva KDE Maintainer) provide packages for 2009.0 and 2009.1? For example here: i586 urpmi.addmedia kde43 ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/X11/kde/st ... edia/kde43 urpmi.addmedia kde43-noarch ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/X11/kde/st ... edia/kde43 x86-64 urpmi.addmedia kde43 ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/X11/kde/st ... edia/kde43 urpmi.addmedia kde43-noarch ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/X11/kde/st ... edia/kde43 Regards, TeaAfe

Also, are you building the appropriate oxygen-icons KDESupport component?

You should be building this repository as part of your build. It needs to be after Qt but before anything KDE.

Have you managed to solve the problem?
I have the same problem and even though i have followed the compilation steps, i still don't have any icons too. When i issue the "startx" command, i get errors of this type printed: Could not find mime type "application/octet-stream" I also get it when i launch Dolphin. Any information that can help me to solve this issue is welcomed. Thanking you in advance, David My system information: 1) svn co from branches/4.3 2) I have KDE 4.3.2 3) distribution: Slackware |

I found the solution:
1) Removed my .local directory in my home folder 2) Run update-mime-database |

I'm still encountering this problem when i change my init level to boot directly on X using KDM login. I have no clue what can and should be done now

There is no change from KDE's point of view whether startx or KDM is used to commence the session, so please contact your distributor.

@bolenti if it makes it any easier for the time being, you can find the packages and source tree at http://cardinal.lizella.net/~vbatts/kde ... ges/4.3.2/ or rsync://cardinal.lizella.net/vbatts/kde ... ges/4.3.2/
