I am trying again to run KDE for windows, but even on the 4.8.0 release, ALL KDE apps linked against QtCore4.dll crash on startup. I am running Windows Server 2008 R1 x64 here (equivalent to Vista), but I don't think that is the issue. I installed to a drive partition other than C:\, but it seemslike windows IS loading QtCore4.dll, then crashes with an unspecified reason.

Here's the data from trying to run konquerer.exe:

I also tried adding the full path to KDE's bin\ folder to PATH, to no effect. QtCore4.dll is located in bin\, not in lib\, no idea why. The installer put it there, so I assume this is correct.

Thoughts?

Have you been able to determine a backtrace for this crash? It seems to be related to something specific to your setup.

What drive have you installed KDE on Windows to? Please try installing it to the System Drive (the same one Windows itself is installed on)

Negative on the backtrace. All I have is just the crash log provided by Windows directly.

I am installing it directly onto my F: drive under "Program Files (x86)", where I install a majority of my programs to, without issue. I have other Qt-based apps installed, each using its own included copy of Qt, and they all work fine. I verified that the QtCore4.dll that causes the crash is the one included with the KDE/Windows package (ver 4.7.4). Some of the baseline Qt apps, like assistant.exe, load fine.

I can't really see anything wrong with this setup. About the only thing that stands out is the installation into a directory containing spaces. Do you guys account for this with the installer? I have a .kde folder setup in %APPDATA%, but the global KDE config file was never created by the installer, as kde4init.exe suffered the same failure as other KDE apps.

Any other debugging tips?

If you have another version of Qt 4.7.4 around, does copying the affected *.dll files over the ones used by KDE on Windows have any impact?
