I just installed KDE 4.1.2 on my machine and there seems to be no KDE pim or Amarok....do I have to install an earlier version to get them? Or is my install defunct? Thanks...

What distribution do you use?
The KDE4 version of Kontact is stable, you should be able to install it from your distribution's software manager. The Amarok guys still need some time, so the KDE3 is to use...

no, nothing is wrong with your install, in kde4.1.2 there is no amarok or kdepim module yet, so better just wait for packages to land

Yes, there are no amarok packages in 4.1.2, but you can use the version from the 4.1.1 release.
About kdepim: we are currently not providing kdepim packages as those would need a certain level of stability and features and I currently don't have the time to get this working. Nevertheless we have the plan to provide kdepim packages for KDE 4.2.
