Where to find widgets for Windows?

Thu Nov 06, 2008 3:31 pm
I mainly use Kubuntu, but I decided to try Windows KDE4 port.
I managed to start plasma (it didn't started by itself, don't know is this normal..)
I noticed that "task manager" (is it called that way?) is missing.
It's a important part of usability and it's not there.
I know that windows KDE port is in heavy development that's why I'm asking this. Is this just not there yet or did I screw up my installation?
Also how do you uninstall KDE I can't find it in add/remove programs.
Oh I use Windows XP home if that's has anything to do with problems.
Thanks for any help, and keep up the good work

PS: KDE4 is the best!

just run the installer, you will have the option, either to update/install packages, or remove kde installation.

To add more: many things in Windows work differently than on other OSs. That's why providing task manager, system tray or many similar objects are rather system specific. It'll come with time, though, because there're some plans for future, of course. But it's not yet here. And since without taskmanager and system tray and good file associations + Kickoff that could contain not only KDE apps, but also other Windows' ones - without all these things the usability is really low (if it's here at all). Thus, Plasma isn't launched (or "enabled") by default. Though, you can launch it manually and by just double clicking plasma.exe from %KDEROOT%bin. As you can see - plasma isn't that convenient to stop. So, i'd advice you to create two link files - one for running Plasma and one for properly stop it.
The first is quite obvious. The second one should contain the following command:
Code: Select all
%KDEROOT%binkquitapp.exe plasma

*NOTE: substitute the %KDEROOT% with your KDE install directory - by default it's "C:Program FilesKDE"
