KDE on Non-Linux Platforms

Sat Nov 16, 2013 7:54 pm
The KDE Software Compilation page states "In its inception, KDE was formed to create a beautiful, functional and free desktop computing environment for Linux and similar operating system" and the KDE Windows Initiative FAQ states "KDE4 is known to run on various versions of Windows XP and Vista, as well as Windows 7," although the few exe's I ran appear to run on Windows 8 .

Is all of the KDE code available on windows platforms?

Since KDE recommends using Qt Creator (although KDevelop and Eclipse are mentioned), what KDE code can be used in an App that is built using Qt Creator and deployed to a mobile platform, such as Android and iOS?

Thanks.

No, currently not. I mean the code is all available, but not all of it builds and not all of what builds runs. Plasma on windows isn't much fun, for example, and kwin doesn't work at all. Other applications, such as kate, work great though.

Can't tell you anything about android, but the IDE doesn't matter for building KDE code; it's built with cmake.

Sven

I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.

Sven,

Are you saying that Qt Creator has to be configured to use cmake instead of qmake to be able to use any KDE code?

Yes. KDE is built with cmake, and you can either use cmake from CLI or configure an IDE to run it for you. An IDE using cmake will usually just run the cmake command for you.

Are you able to reach the stage where it asks you to select a mirror, or does it fail before it reaches this stage?

yes i get to that point
first i installed it blank

than i got told by a friend i had to install packages so i did
i selected literaly everything under the all : bin, dev, source

nothing worked
so than i manualy selected all under kde , kde support, kde-l10n and win32libs but only bin files
could not complete the proces since it keep getting stuck at 1 file

tried to finish it under 3 different download mirrors but no positive result

have to add used 1 gb 1 german and 1 usa mirror to reduce the ods that it would go threw the same server

Can you please provide a screenshot of the point at which it gets stuck so this can be investigated further?
In terms of mirrors, if you have any doubts, please select http://download.kde.org/ - which will always work.
