Hey all, i have installed KDE4.1 on Windows Vista x64 and am experiencing some issues with Plasma and Amarok, I understood that KDE 4.1 for Windows is still in development at it's early age atm, however, I would like remove it from Windows Vista. So, there seems to be a problem, " There's no Uninstaller to remove KDE " . Hence, why i am asking since there is not Topic or How to guide mentioning " how to remove it from Window " Any help would be appreciated.

There should be an uninstaller of some description in C:Program FilesKDE however it should have added change / remove links in Add / Remove programs.

just remove the folder where you installed kde, if you want to remove config files too they are in %appdata%.kde

The installer also has an option to Remove everything. If it doesn't work then Brandon's suggestion works too.

Hm.. never thought that this issue is so popular... though, there're some people from time to time that pop up on the irc with this question.
So, let's clarify things.
Later, when we'll have to mess with registry settings we should provide you with some means of uninstalling it and restoring the registry settings as they were before using KDE. For now, it's only like that. |

I accidentally installed KDE on the "User" in Windows Vista and now it doesn't allow me to cancel the folders manually nor am I able to uninstall them from the installation file (I don't understand where) like Kraplax suggested. Can anyone please help me?
Also, I wanted to install amarok, but it doesn't appear between the programs that you can install. Is that possible? ![]() Thanks a lot in advance |

To install Amarok you should use the amarok-nightly repository:
http://mafia-server.net/amarok-nightly/README Also take a look at this thread if you have problems reproducing songs: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83285 Regarding the uninstall there should be an "Remove installed packages" option somewhere in the Installer. Remember to deselect the "Skip basic settings" (or something like that) in the first page of the wizard. http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KDE_on ... _system.3F |

seems like now, in 2010, we should kill a bunch of processes manually before uninstall KDE. the processes were run automatically.
also i found lots of registry entries for kde. well... you still don't want to make proper uninstall for it? it will be very helpful to have an option to uninstall kde but keep data/settings/etc. my point here is: i want to reinstall x64 kde, it's x32 now. but i have to cast some magic to remove it properly. thank you in advance, Andrey |

So strange... from what I remember the default behaviour is to don't touch anything in the registry. What kind of entries are you seeing? |

Hi,
I use KDE on Fedora, at present I have no more need for KDE on Windows. Hence I also wish to uninstall, complete cleanup.
As of today, the FAQ also refers to this method. However, using the latest version (0.9.8-0) of the kdewin installer, I could not find this option anywhere. I have tried to select every installed package (in package manager mode) and change them to remove ("recycle bin" icon), but it doesn't seem to have any effect, either. To the opposite, it even updated all packages and downloaded new ones ![]() Could anyone please tell how to competely, manually remove any KDE component and registry settings ? KDE is 4.5.4 (stable/latest today), OS is XP SP3. Thanks! Xavier |

The option to remove an install only shows up if you select to skip basic settings on the first screen of the installer; in that case, the second screen will give you a choice between update/install more packages and remove installed packages.
It may take running the installer all the way through once if the skip basic settings checkbox isn't available on the first screen.

Thanks airdrik, OK, I found this screen now, but it still does not help me (see 2). 1. About the "Remove install package" screen in the installer Apparently, it is also required, to have left the installer mode as "End-User" during the last time the installer was executed. So, if it was not the case (but in "Package Manager" mode) :
But if the installer is instead, in "Package Manager", then I confirm that here :
So, thank you once again airdrik, you made me perseveer ![]() 2. When selecting "remove install packages" Then, I am asked to confirmed if I want to remove all apps from ( my install path). I confirm and continue. Then, I am informed that "There are KDE applications running, etc.". I check all processes in memory, but I cannot see any KDE related process (I also use the excellent Process Explorer from Sysinternals), besides :
Then the installer exists. No error, no message... and nothing happens. The last entry of the log file is :
At present, the installer have no access to the repo cache ("download folder"), it is located on an external drive, which is not avail. at the moment. Could this be related ? Note: the installer has not expressed any complain, it simply felt back to the "bin" subfolder within KDE program folder apparently, by default. Should it require this repo cache to uninstall ? 3. Other ways to unistall Could anyone please help fixing the installer? (or faster I suppose) Could anyone please precise the list of steps required to entirely, cleanly remove any "KDE on Windows" component from XP SP3 ?
Thanks, Xavier |

xaho, would you mind updating the FAQ by creating a new page "How to uninstall KDE from Windows" or linking your forum post from the FAQ page?

It would be really helpful to have general instructions for both installing and uninstalling on Windows on http://userbase.kde.org. We have a category "KDE on Windows" defined, but so far no-one volunteering to write this up. If anyone is willing to give it a try, feel free to contact me for help.
