kad (Qcad) on windows

Wed Jan 28, 2009 4:35 pm
hi everyone,
kde newbie here (see on the left :shade:)

question 1
i have installed kde 4 on windows XP in order to use kad (the name of qcad in kde, as far as i know!!) but i think there is no kad in the setup (browsing the educational software i see nothing)
isn't kad within the kde setup , or i am missing something here? :-S

question 2
does kde 4 run on windows 2000 ? (im interested mostly in qcad - kad)

thank you

Hello :)

1) Well, Kad is not in kdeedu. No idea when it will get ported and how functional will it be.
2) KDE should run on 2000, though, there's no information about it. It hasn't been tested. If you intend on testing it - please, leave the results here, so that everyone know :)

hi there.... almost one year after! :< (too slow resposne of me...)

trying to install KDE 4.3.4 on a mackine running windows 2000 - SP4 (pentium 4 - 256MB RAM)...
I'm interesting only in kdeedu so I installed it (and saved it in a directory also for further ofline install) and then I followed the instructions for testing the installation on http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KDE_on_Windows/Installation#Summary_of_Steps .

1- At the firth step, the Qt assistant works but swoing nothing... (no contents!).
2- the worst is that everywhen I try to run an application an errors comes up, saying that the "getaddrinfo process could not be found at the WS2_32.dll"...

I am going to replace the WS2_32.dll library with another one downloaded from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ws2_32 and coming back for the resaults...

That WS2_32.dll stuff has to do with us compiling for XP+,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms738520(VS.85).aspx

your Winsock version is too old and we do not compile KDE for lower than WinXP. There are some instructions on that page, but that requires you to compile KDE yourself.

When you install the newer version of WS2_32.dll it is probably a version from XP+, so that might mess-up your Windows installation.

I tried to replace WS2_32.dll as I said but it wasn't possible (windows wouldn't let me do that)... I wont try any more cause as cvandonderen said...might mess-up my Windows installation. Anyway I know almost nothing about compiling KDE for winXP or win2000, but I red in that msdn page you suggested, that for win2000 I "need to include the Ws2tcpip.h and Wspiapi.h files" !!!
if anyone gave me some help on what to do I would gave it a try despite of my "newbieness" !! :< .... Any suggestions?

"I think the last question of mine is a bit different (kde for win 2000)... so it would be better to start another thread...
thanx anyone"

later......

it seems it works using the MinGW compiler (choosing MinGW4 in the kde-installer).
No error comes up and the applications is reacting properly (I 've only tested kturtle...)
I ll try it more and come back here if I find any problems...

thank you all !!!
