Does it work on Windows 98 SE?
I want to use it on an old Laptop from 1997 which still works fine for Office tasks an websurfing. |

I think a lighter desktop environment like Fluxbox or XFCE would be better for an old laptop. But you can't have them on Windows. I found this in the FAQ at the KDE Windows site. 'KDE4 is known to run on various versions of Windows XP and Vista, as well as the upcoming Windows 7.'

I would install a lightweight Linux on that laptop. By "lightweight" I mean Slackware or Arch, and not SuSE or Kubuntu.
Then I would forget about KDE4, and try Fluxbox or WindowMaker, and not worry about a full desktop. I had a 1998-ish lab computer that was fine with KDE1 and KDE2, but started to lag with KDE3. I wouldn't even think about putting KDE4 on it today.
Don't look back! (Or you might see the giants whose shoulders we stand on)
