According to http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/dashboard/ kde-graphics (including Krita) is compiling fine. Yet when I install KDE 4.3.3 with KDE-graphics and try to run Krita I get:
Is there any way of getting a working version of Krita on Windows? I read that there's a nightly build of Koffice, but haven't managed to find anywhere to install it from. I've also tried ticking "devel" on all the main kde/QT/kde-graphics package. The KDE on Win installer only seems to offer "Latest Stable" when I'm more interested in Trunk. Cheers! |

You're not the only one with this kind of problems.
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-windo ... 04449.html viewtopic.php?f=59&t=78044 viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83109 Follow the first thread on the mailing list, probably you should check *.mft files too... However probably it's not your complete fault, as you're not the first user ending with a messed up install. |

Thanks for the links panda84,
I was using the latest downloader, freshly installed, and had just deleted the whole KDE directory, so as far as I know, there shouldn't have been old versions. There is a chance that there was stable and development versions installed at the same time as I wasn't aware you had to keep them separate. How I wish the Windows installer had a more user friendly interface that: a) Had an "update all" button, just as any Linux package manager has and b) Didn't allow you to do things that are known to break, but not user obvious ie if you have package a selected and it conflicts with package b, don't allow me to choose both. c) Didn't confuse the heck out of even a relatively technical user like me with different compilation versions *sigh* Anyway, thanks for your help! |

Your're right, but unfortunately the Windows team is always short of manpower...

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't blame them. Seems to me that they're a small number of people doing a very important job, that even gets a lot of flack. I just don't see any of my skills matching their needs. Anyway, I'm hoping that over time, they can tap into some of the huge pool of people who use Windows to help out. Unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a chicken and egg thing as to me, I suspect that an installer that is this difficult to use could very well put off many of the people who could otherwise go on to become contributors.
Anyway, three cheers for the KDE on Windows devs. I admire your work, even if it's still working towards perfection. |

Well, if you have some spare time probably they'll find you some things you can help at. I think of updating the website:
http://windows.kde.org/ The latest announcement is about 4.3.0 while 4.3.3 is already out. There are a lot of little things non technical people can help to work out. For example, while I'm not a developer, I try to help in the forum. Or proofreading strings... users tend to be more aware of what a users understands rather than developers. If interested just ask in the mailing list: https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-windows Regards, Diego |

I did get this worked out. It was a combination of devel and non devel packages. Try installing to a different directory and only choosing stable *or* devel packages (but not both).

I installed to a different directory and installed stable latest and still have the same eror message. Guess I'll have to wait until the next release.

I had to try a couple of times, but making sure that I also completely deleted the old version. From memory it's just in Program Files, but there may be something in your users "Application Data" folder, too.

KOffice 2.1.0 is available in 4.3.4 (stable latest) folder. Please try doing an update or installing from scratch.

I am not able to delete the bin, lib, share and tmp files frome the kde program file. Does someone know how I can do this? Why does kde not show up in the control panels uninstall page and why is there no uninstaller?

You need to close any KDE applications you have running and reboot. Then run the installer again and select uninstall.

Initially when I installed 4.3.3 Krita was there but it had the error message at the start of this thread. I,ve deleted all the kde files after I,ve done an uninstall and I still can,t get it to load Krita. Is their a manual way of loading Krita in 4.3.4? Thanks! Brent Kjernisted
