I'm using windows 7. When I try to install KDE on my computer, I get to this page of the installation pages:
http://techbase.kde.org/File:Installer-008.png and it's blank. There are zero packages available to install. If I click "Package Manager", it shows the supplementary packages, but none of the base packages.. I've tried multiple mirrors. Any help would be appreciated. |

That's strange.

I'm definitely doing all of those things. Any other ideas? Is anyone else having trouble with windows 7?

You shouldn't choose mingw as compiler. Try mingw4 instead.

Using MINGW4, the package list appears, but it doesn't contain the base package. Then, when it tries to install, it can't create the directories in c:\Program Files (x86)\KDE ..and it just breaks. The RKWard instructions below state that I need MINGW, not MINGW4..

If I try to install some of the other packages in the list, the installer isn't even able to create the directory c:\Program Files (x86)\KDE\bin.
Has anyone successfully installed KDE on windows 7? |

Yes, of course:
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=15580 By the way, I see that you have Program Files (x86): are you on 64 bit? |

Yes, I am. I thought that most installs of windows 7 are 64 bit..
Does that make a difference in this install? |

Don't know, I'm on XP, but maybe it can be one of the causes... one can never know what can go wrong.

I got it to work by installing on c:\KDE instead of c:\Program Files (x86)
It looks like it has a problem with the space in the directory name? Seems like a bug that needs to be fixed! |

In 32bit it's Program Files, so it shouldn't be a space problem. My first suspect was in the parentheses when I've seen them: Program Files (x86). I did not dare to tell my suspect because you were reporting other problems with the mirrors. I'll notify the problem with parentheses if not yet reported. |

Hi,
Attempting to install KDE in Windows XP using the 0.9.6-5 installer, I didn't manage to see anything but a blank list of packages. I had KDE4.0 installed so I thought this was because of that that the installer was so quiet, so I uninstalled 4.0 to no avail. I moved the installer out of its original folder (which was containing spaces in its path) without any more luck. Too bad, -- Pierre. |

Hi Again,
After killing a some long running processes (such as one kate, one kioslave and one dbus-manager), the installer now offers me some packages to install. In the meantime, I also completely erased c:\kde\ from my hard disk... I guess I should have been more persistent...
