KDE 4.4.5

Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:50 pm
Hi

I have question about he releases. I am using digicam from the version 4.4.1. and it has a confirmed problem with saving a jpeg.
I tried to update with release 4.4.4 but in this release is no digicam.
Did you know if it will be in the next release?

Regards

Sorry, I can't help. I just wanted to say I too am waiting for the next iteration of Digikam with the new Exiv2 library.

In fact I would love to find a way to get regular updates of Digikam without waiting for the rest of the Windows KDE system to keep track: Digikan evolves faster.

But it seems this option is only available to those who can build from the source code. I don't have the technical knowledge to do that, so after spending days unsuccessfully trying compile Digikam, I completely gave up.

I am starting to wonder if that is a deliberate choice by the cognoscenti, who feel KDE for Windows is not mature enough to face the mountain of numpties like me ready to ask stupid question and bog developers down with too much handholding.

Actually, it's more that there are only a couple of developers actively working on KDE on Windows, thus the project is basically starving for lack of maintainers.
I've been using KDE on Windows for about a year - since plasma's been stable enough to use full-time (about 4.3, airc). When they've got things building properly, they usually release the KDE on Windows binary packages about a week after the regular KDE release. Unfortunately there are frequent breakages that prevent even building the base libraries, especially lately (see http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/dashboard/ for the state of the nightly build).
So we keep waiting for someone to fix the Windows build and release new binaries.
