Hey I'm a new user on KDE forums. Sorry if this topic is in the wrong place, please move if it is. You see I'm a windows user looking for a good program to find music and vidoes hidden on my harddrive! A friend recommended KDE and after looking at some applications KDE KFIND seems to be what I want. However all the KDE apps for Utilities are bundled together. I try to minimize programs I don't use on my harddrive so if its possible can you guys explain to me how to just install KFind?

I don't know if you still need help with this. As with most open source software, you should be able to compile a package from source that will work with your machine. I don't quite understand why you would want to install a whole desktop for the purpose of using just one rather small programme. It does seem a bit like overkill. There are many good third party desktop search programmes avaialbe for Windows. I used Agent Ransack from Win95 to Vista. With it, you can use not only wildcards and time parameters, but also regular expressions such as and/or/not etc.

On the other hand, if you install KDE, it will give you an opportunity to try out a variety of Linux alternatives to standard Windows software, making your transition to Linux much easier - cause you know you're going to eventually, right
