[SOLVED] How many kwalletd.exe's?

Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:53 am
Process Explorer shows one instance of kwalletmanager.exe and 49 instances of kwalletd.exe. Is this normal and typical when running one Kate window and one FTP connection within it?

This is not normal behaviour for KWallet, which usually (at least on Linux, the Windows situation should be the same) only be running once.

If this can be reproduced after a reboot, can you check to make sure multiple KDE apps aren't being run on startup?

As best I can tell:

1. Reboot Windows
2. Open PSPad Editor
3. Open Process Explorer (PE, replaces Task Manager),
  • there are about 65 processes: system, security, and app launchers.
4. Open Kate from start menu, adds *.exe's:
  • klauncher
  • kioslave (initially 2, decreased to 1)
  • kded4
5. In Kate, open a local text file--no new processes
6. In Kate, slide out Filesystem Browser, choose Network,
that adds 3 more kioslave, then back to 1.
7. In Kate > Filesystem Browser > Network, choose previously configured
  • FTP connection to my web server
  • that pops up Authorizing Dialog waiting for password
      and adds 2 more kioslave
    8. Type password, choose OK
    • that displays remote directory tree, pops up KDE Wallet Service,
    • and adds 7 kwalletd, knotify, and 2 more kioslave
    9. Type wallet password, choose Open,
    • that adds 1 kwalletmanager and 48 kwalletd (Kate shows hourglass cursor)
    10. Open a remote file (successfully),
    • that adds 2 more kwalletd, then kills 1

At this point, Kate is very sluggish, and opens another Untitled whenever a remote file is chosen. There are 56 kwalletd after closing Kate.

Upgraded to KDE on Windows 4.4.4. Kwalletd no longer multiplies like bunnyrabits.

    Thanks for the help.
