Assuming that you already have dolphin installed and working, the following should set it as default file manager in windows. This should also work for other versions of windows, though I have not tested it myself.
1. Create a text file and paste in the following: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell] @="dolphin" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\dolphin] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\dolphin\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\KDE4\\bin\\dolphin.exe \"%1\"" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell] @="xplorer2" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\dolphin\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\KDE4\\bin\\dolphin.exe \"%1\"" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell] @="xplorer2" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\dolphin] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\dolphin\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\KDE4\\bin\\dolphin.exe \"%1\"" 2. change address to point towards your dolphin executable (highlighted) 3. save file as a .reg 4. add to registry (double click) things to bear in mind: (as of version 4.4.4) Dolphin does not integrate perfectly with windows' recycle bin: if you want to add files to the recycle bin then you will have to drag and drop from dolphin. In order to view the contents of the recycle bin you will have to right click on recycle bin icon and select "open", as double clicking will instead open dolphin at your home directory. Permanent deleting does work however. Thanks. |

I hate to open an old thread, but as a linux guy who recently did this and attempted to change it back..... how do I change the file assosiations back accordingly? I deleted the three registry entries created, but I get an error when clicking on most Explorer related links akin to "this file does not have an assosiated... blah". This is true even for clicking on things such as the control panel. thoughts, feelings?
Thanks, Jesse p.s. If anyone can answer this I would be overjoyed because I might have done this on my work laptop. |

I should have mentioned that I did try the first post and to no avail. however the second one has more insight, and therefore I will try it tomorrow. Additionally, if I am not mistaken, the script above makes more than three changes to the registry, in which case I did not completely delete them. Which is not to say that deleting them is actually reverting to stock behavior |
