You can usually see what's going on by following the kde on windows mailing list (https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-windows). I think the developers tend to get so involved in tweaking the process and fixing bugs that they forget about that there are newer releases which need releasing. There was a big push to get 4.5.4 out the door, and there was supposed to be another big push after that for 4.6, but I haven't seen anything since to indicate even a start of such a push - only bugs, changes to the emerge scripts they use, answering questions, etc.

I am subscribed to the KDE mailing lists. I see not much activity there, at least for the Windows port. I've seen KDE 4.5.4 for Windows released in about 2 months. Now, for the 4.6 release, the time has almost doubled. I become concerned as I love KDE and I am eager to see plasma at work. The 4.5.4, it doesn't... |

What do you mean by doesn't work? Which compiler version are you using (mingw/msvs)? I recall that using the msvs-compiled versions of 4.5.4, a lot of things, especially plasma, were really sluggish. Everything ran well enough with no such sluggishness with the mingw version. I'm not sure how else things may be different between Win XP 64-bit which I was using and Win 7.

I have installed the pre-built KDE with the automatic installer provided by KDE Windows group, I have chose MS compiled binaries (I am Windows developer also and I think the native compiler is always better, having issues with builds of mingw in the past) and I've run plasma on Windows 7 64 bit. In my experience, plasma did not show at all, no context menu, just some 'ghost' in the ALT-TAB tray. I have shut down any explorer and desktop windows with no results. |

I guess un-checking "skip basic settings" brings the mirror selection back, so it works again. |

Actually I'd prefer a stable release over a quick one. It's not like under linux that updates and bugfixes are being applied daily.
I use KDE for windows mainly for the good apps (mostly the Kile + Okular combo). In the last version (4.5.4), Okular has a bug which disables the auto-refresh, and the release before that, Kile has a bug that makes it not start under certain circumstances. I'd greatly prefer a release where they work both over a quick buggy release with the latest graphics to be honest... |

I haven't been able to get the help program to work since KDE 4.4.4. I tried 4.5.4 this time, and still cannot get the help program to generally open, and when clicking on help from within an application, I get "The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files". I am using Windows 7. (I think I mentioned this before).
AND, the PDF module won't 'open' anything--it goes pale, and dies. (It WILL import postscript files) TP (I would really like to recommend the system to some folks--but it's difficult if they can't figure out how to use the applications.) |

Hi KDE on Windows dev. Can you advise why Skrooge used to be in the software list, but now isn't. I am reviewing Skrooge and would dearly like to say it works on Windows as well using KDE for Windows but at the moment, thats an invalid comment.
I have tried to contact one of the dev team from KDE o W but got no reply, so relying on a reply here please. Thanks, Alistair |

Sorry, we probably haven't packaged skrooge in the last KDE version on Windows (4.5.4) - it will definitely be included in the coming 4.7.X release (hopefully that will be 4.7.0).

If you try to install it again, the first page will have a checkbox "Skip basic settings". It will be checked by default. Uncheck it and installer will allow you to change the mirror etc. |
