On windows XP, the installer works just fine. But on windows 7, the files get installed in a completely wrong directory (often just your download directory) and the install path is never asked.
A solution is to run the installer as Administrator. Even then, the default path is not what it should be (C:\Program Files\KDE x.x.x), but at least it is fixable and you can use the software without any problems afterwards. |

Can you submit this as a bug report in https://bugs.kde.org against the installer component? I have an idea what goes wrong here, but I need to check this more in depth.

I just got this email:
I have no idea what to conclude now. Did my report fail, and if so, what did I do wrong? |

Your report did not fail. That message you recieved is because the mailing list is misconfigured, and isn't accepting all Bugzilla mail by default.

I was wondering what is up with that. I tried sending a message to that list a few days ago - stuff related to testing/running the latest version of KDE on Windows, but got rejected. I ended up posting the message here but haven't gotten a reply back, yet.

I just did a clean install today and non-admin worked exactly as admin. So, I guess part of it was problem with the cache that leaves behind when one only removes the folder in C:\Program Files.
The default folder is still not correct though. |

This thing drives me crazy. I thought my clean install worked, but despite the fact that I did enter the correct directory, it seems that KDE has been installed in my download folder anyway, and not in Program Files.
![]() This is really strange. Can someone else please test the installer's behavior under win7? Edit: and all 3 of my messages now got rejected by the list, or at least I get a third email saying this. |

I can't help you with your installer problem (Win XP here), but I think the reject message is because you are considered the sender of the email, but are not subscribed to the mailing list. I don't know if it's considered an intended behaviour, but maybe the time has come for a dedicated windows-bugs mailing list. But this is up to the KDE Windows team! ![]() |
