Hello,
I am new to this forum and to KDE-Koffice on windows. I have KDE and Koffice running fine on linux (Ubuntu) but I do have to use Windows unfortunately and wanted to install KDE and Koffice on the windows machine. KDE install worked fine and I have KDE running. I can't find koffice binaries for windows XP and I can'r seem to find instructions on how to build koffice for Windows. Any help in pointing me to building koffice or finding binaries is greatly appreciated. For information -- I do not have MS Office on the windows machine. Thanks in advance. |

my understanding is that it is available though the KDE Windows Installer http://techbase.kde.org/File:Installer-008.png

Thanks. This is bizarre. Koffice is not in the latest installer. Is the screenshot from an older installer? If so where do I get it? The only thing I found on techbase was the latest one.
Thanks again. |

per this page it appears there were problems building it on Windows http://dot.kde.org/2011/01/09/windows-t ... plications you might check the irc channel so you might have to wait or try asking on the irc channel

I have cygwin installed on my windows machine. Can I install KDE--Koffice in cygwin instead? If so where can I find some instructions on how to do that?

You can install KDE4 from the 3rd-party Cygwin Ports (http://sourceware.org/cygwinports/) repository (there are some hoops you have to jump through to get things actually installed, which are detailed on their home page). It looks like they have KDE 4.5.5 and KOffice 2.3.1 in their repositories.

Thank you all for the help. I'll try to get KDE installed for Cygwin.

Does it make a difference whether you are running Windows 7 64 bit vs. 32 bit?

Sort of, not really. Most of the compilers used have been 32 bit which should be fully usable in 64 bit Windows (I've been running 32 bit versions of KDE on Windows XP 64 and haven't run into any troubles due to 64-bit vs. 32-bit that I can tell).
You can always try installing using one compiler version, try it out, delete that and reinstall using a different compiler version, then see which one works the best.
