I can't remove KDE from my Windows XP system by running the installer and choosing to skip basic setting pages and then choosing to remove installed packages, when I try to do this I keep getting a long winded error message saying basically that there are still kde programs running, however there is nothing showing up in my windows task manager that appears to be a kde program, additionally if I run services.msc there are no kde related services present there (didn't know if there normally would be or not, I just figured I'd better check to make sure though). I want to uninstall it because it runs ungodly slow on my computer (which is an older computer anyway, guess I'll have to settle for dual booting Windows/Linux). There is no listing for KDE in my Windows Add/Remove Programs list either. I am running version 0.9.8-1 of the KDE installer (KDE 4.5.4) for Windows if it matters.

You might also double-check for dbus-daemon.exe in the task manager.
Assuming that all KDE processes are closed, you should also be able to delete the KDE folder that was selected for the install (c:\Program Files\KDE, assuming defaults). KDE user data is in c:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\.kde

One thing that I noticed when I installed KDE 4.5.4 is that the MSVS compiler versions tended to run very slow. You might try the Mingw compiler version instead.

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to manually deleting everything on my own (I really really hate when poorly written software forces me to do that to remove it), I guess there's no such thing as testing before release anymore huh?

Also I double checked, and unless it's running as a process under one of the other things in the task list there's definitely nothing there (dbus or otherwise) that looks like it's from KDE.

One other thing that comes to mind, are you running the installer using the shortcut in the KDE application menu (start -> KDE 4.5.4 -> KDE Installer 0.9.8-1)? If so, that executable is in the KDE\bin directory and would prevent removal.

Thanks again for the reply, I just finally ended up deleting the folders you mentioned and running Wise Registry Cleaner to cleanup any leftover entries in the registry. It's just stupid that they give you the option of removing things if you can't because the application that's going to remove them happens to be in the folder that has to be removed, most intelligent programmers would allow it to continue anyway and set the remaining files to be cleaned up on the next system restart. Anyway that's something for the idiots that wrote that POS installer to consider for the future. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Since you seem to know so much about how to make an uninstaller that will do that, why don't you volunteer your abilities to making the necessary changes to the installer? At the very least you can submit a bug report to bugs.kde.org so that someone who is familiar with the installer can fix it, rather than ranting and throwing insults at programmers who have been working on putting together the KDE on Windows compilation in their free time on a volunteer basis.

I never said I knew HOW to make an installer that would do that, but I HAVE used others that do exactly that!!! So **** YOU!!!!! Free time or not they deserve what I've said if they can't even be bothered to properly test their software before releasing it, do some **** research of your own, this has been a problem for SEVERAL revisions of the installer now, I'm reasonably sure that MANY other people HAVE filed bug reports about it, yet apparently NOBODY **** CARES ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!

JUST LIKE ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH KDE ON LINUX ITSELF THAT HAVE EXISTED FOR GOING ON 3 YEARS OR MORE NOW!!! LIKE THE PROBLEM WITH THE NETWORK MANAGER NOT SHOWING ANY CONNECTIONS SO THE USER CAN'T EDIT THEM!!! OR PROBLEMS WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE THE CLOCK SETTINGS (A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT CONFIRMED PROBLEMS THERE!!)!!! OR THE NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH USERS LOSING TIME ON THEIR SYSTEM TRAY CLOCK!!!! IF THEY DON'T WANT TO LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS THEN MAYBE THEY SHOULD **** FIX THE PROBLEMS, THERE'S NO REASON THAT AFTER 3 **** YEARS I SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO EDIT MY NETWORK CONNECTION SETTINGS USING THE KDE NETWORK MANAGER, INSTEAD I'M BEING FORCED TO USE THE GNOME CONNECTION MANAGER WITH KDE (WHICH ACTUALLY WORKS, UNLIKE THE KDE ONE) OR EVEN TO USE WICD WHICH LACKS SEVERAL FEATURES OF THE GNOME (& KDE) NETWORK MANAGER!!!! THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE ALL CONFIRMED BUGS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE FILED BUG REPORTS ON BUT STILL THEY HAVEN'T BEEN FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL OF THESE ARE PROBLEMS I'VE ENCOUNTERED ON FRESH INSTALLS OF KUBUNTU 10.10 (MAVERICK) & DEBIAN 6.0 (SQUEEZE) ON VARIOUS HARDWARE!!!! A PRETTY INTERFACE (WHICH I WILL ADMIT THAT KDE HAS) ISN'T ANY **** GOOD IF BASIC THINGS LIKE THOSE DON'T **** WORK!!!!

SO GO **** OFF!!!! MAYBE YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE TO DO IT SINCE YOU SEEM TO KNOW SO MUCH!!!!!!!
