Phonon programming, VLC backend

Tue Mar 22, 2011 7:23 pm
Hi!
I've started to develop a simple media player using phonon. On linux, everything works finewith xine or vlc backend. But when I tried it on windows (with using kde for windows), but it uses directshow backend always. (ffdshow icons in the taskbar indicates it) Is there anyway to force programatically phonon to use vlc backend?
Thanks for any answer, and sorry for my bad english. :)

Applications cannot influence this I believe. It is up to the users installation to determine the Phonon backend in use.

Hi,

I'm developing a music player for my UMPC running Windows. I would like to use Phonon as playback engine. Unfortunately Phonon uses DirectShow on Windows, which is pretty useless. Fixing playback issues of one format breaks another one.

I would like to use VLC Phonon backend but I have no idea how to do it. Could anyone advice me please?

I would suggest sending an email to the phonon-backends@kde.org mailing list about this.
