I downloaded kdewin installer and run the setup

But the in which mode (user or package manager) I have to run the kdewin installer ?? which package I have to install in order to have Kompare installed ? I cannot see Kompare in the list of program.

Thanks to point me to the steps.

It is only for UNIX.
You can compile it yourself.

Actually Kompare does come in one of the packages for KDE on Windows, I'm not sure which one (I just recently got to move to Ubuntu at work so no more Windows for me).
As I recall, it does, however, rely on using the diff command-line utility, and I don't think the KDE on Windows installer installs that (I remember having hit-or-miss success with Kompare and never looked into it much).

On the other hand I would recommend that you try out KDiff3 instead. It has its own Windows builds and will do file or directory diffing/merging.

I just installed kompare using emerge. See:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started ... ows/emerge

Note:

diffutils is also needed. It should be set as a dependency.

I was very impressed with Kompare the one time I got it to install and work properly some years back. Every time I've tried since then, the diff.exe (or even other such utiities) are missing by not being included as a dependency. When I try finding one with the install tool, the diff utilities are not listed. This is quite disappointing. Much like the time when I found out that Linux was not going to support the older processors and left me with about 5 machines that I could no longer use after spending a fair bit of time (and my limited funds) for rounding them up. (So much for my troubles.) I could stick my nose into your operations a bit and try to remind the manager of the installer about such concerns; if the party/parties wish to hear such input, periodically. Give me an email address to connect to or the likes and I'll knock on that door more directly.

I do believe that familiarity with using your programs and interface are very helpful in getting people to feel comfortable with using a Linux OS. And I also agree that a healthy attitude of competition (which must include a healthy respect) is very helpful in assuring quality products, that one can afford, are available to the common consumer.

I'm needing to re-install the OS on the system that has the KDE desktop on it that has the working Kompare in it. I'll try to backup the KDE and purhaps get it to work afterwards by restoring that. If there are Registery matters involved though in having it work properly, I will likely fail in that endeavor.

Best wishes to all struggling in this creation to try to express some small bit of the Godly nature that ultimately gives (undeserved by our means) an unfailing utility, and harmonious relationship to all in eternity that love such wholesomeness. Sincerely, gdm

I would recommend sending an email to the KDE on Windows development mailing list concerning the missing dependency.

The mailing list email address is kde-windows@kde.org.
