Is Koffice and Kexi available to be compiled for Windows XP? And What about Win7 (building a new machine soon). The Kexi website specifically stated to ask in these forums if the software is available, and a thread in this forum as recent as Feb-April said there was problem with the latest installer for K-Office which is supposed to include an version of Kexi, but is unstable.
I don't understand the process for this. But this is what I gathered: One must install software for the Win platform. Then one must download source code and then compile the software applications. Is this correct? Are the compilers free? Where does one get them? I saw in some screenshots one chooses between 4 compilers? Why is this? Why would one choose one over another? Does no one know which one is better for which OS? What else do I need to know? The only information available officially is http://userbase.kde.org/KOffice/Download#Windows and that is basically nothing. Also, is one to download a desktop environment to operate Koffice and Kexi? How does that interact with the normal Widnows Desktop? I am really at a loss as to how one gets Koffice and Kexi operating in a Windows environment, if that is currently possible. This whole process is confusing. I am willing to give Koffice a try, but it is already a frustrating process and I have not even downloaded a single file yet. |

Hi,
I recommend to wait for the Windows version which comes this year. Also looking at Linux version would be good introduction in the meantime. |

Is there any sort of time frame? I am either going to use K0ffice or purchase MS Office or Serif products. In a month or two, I will need to start a database, which will either be Open Office's BASE or MS Access.
Is there an older version of Koffice and Kexi that is available to install? |

It's safe to say it won't be in two months. By the way, Kexi will be available within the Calligra Suite, not KOffice. Calligra forum is at viewforum.php?f=203
You know, using unsupported software that will not be updated (Kexi series 1) is bad idea. |
