Hi,
I have Windows XP and just installed KDE 4.8.0. When I run Kile, I get an error saying "This application has failed to start because poppler-qt4.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I tried re-installing again, but KDE for Windows Installer 0.9.9-5 is very slow; it downloads the first couple of files and then hangs (or slows down?). Is there a better (faster) way to get Kile working? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Sameet. |

I've googled your error message and it might have to do something with 64-bit/32-bit confusion. Seeing you are running XP it is most likely a 32-bit system - is there a way of installing a 32-bit KDE/poppler version?

Hi toad,
Thanks for your reply. You are right, I am on a 32 bit system. I use Kile with Ubuntu, and I have gotten used to it. So I wanted to try the same with Windows. Is there somewhere during the KDE install that I forgot to select 32/64 bit? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Sameet. |

I have no idea as I am "windowless". Doesn't it give you an option during the install process?
Perhaps we should wait for some window savvy lot to come online...

Can you please check on disk, likely at C:\Program Files\KDE\lib to see if this file exists?

Hi bcooksley,
Thank you for your reply. I checked as you had asked and the file isn't present (I searched the KDE folder). There is a FindPopplerQt4.cmake in the KDE\share\apps\cmake\modules. A very basic question: After some searching online, I found this link for compiling Poppler on Windows: http://laconsigna.wordpress.com/2011/07/14/compiling-poppler-on-windows/ Is this necessary before the KDE installation? I only installed MiKTeX and then ran the KDE installer, and I only checked kile and kdeworkspace during the package selection. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Sameet. |

The KDE on Windows installer should have taken care of installing Poppler. Can you re-open the KDE on Windows installer and make sure Poppler is checked for installation?
In your searching, did you find the needed poppler-qt4.dll file? If you did not, this indicates it was not installed for unknown reasons.

Hi bcooksley,
Thank you for your reply. You were right, I just hadn't selected poppler when installing KDE. I selected two packages: kate and okular. Poppler was then installed. Kile is working. Thanks also to toad for replying. This topic can now be closed. Regards, Sameet. |

I have installed the kile and kde-workspace packages (with installer 0.9.9-5) and am having the same problem. However poppler doesn't appear in the list of packages available to install. What should I do to get Kile running?
Thanks, Lucas |

Hi manuelli,
Did you try selecting okular and/or kate? Poppler got automatically installed for me when I installed one of these. Regards, Sameet. |

I did have the same problem. Using the KDE for Windows Installer (V.0.9.9), and selecting Kile among the packages to install, I could not start it and got the error message mentioned in the opening post. Re-running the installer, at first I did not find the above mentioned okular package among the packages in the list, just as 'virus002' states in his post. It took me a second try to realise that some of the package entries are indeed package folders to be expanded. Expand "kdegraphics" and you will find the okular package which in turn loads poppler and fixes the problem. Kile now opens without any problem, though I didn't check for the functionalities yet.
