Sorry, I put this original post wrongly under the heading of "Office & Productivity", anyway here it is again under Skrooge..
I'm not clever so you'll have to excuse the jargon and explanation of the symptoms............ Yesterday I installed MacPorts 2.1.1 for Lion and successfully downloaded and installed KmyMoney v1.0.5 and KDE3, I then found out that I couldn't install (which is my first preference) Skrooge, I now believe Skrooge v1.3 runs under KDE4 !! So I uninstalled everything again (including MacPorts) and again clean re-installed MacPorts. This time I went straight for KmyMoney4. At the prompt KmyMoney4 went off and decided which dependencies it required and then started to download the files, after a couple of heart stopping moments and about 2 hours later I now have a new shiny running copy of KmyMoney4 on my desktop, so I now assumed that Skrooge would flawlessly download and install without any more problems whatsoever. Foolish me !! OK ! Skrooge 1.3 downloaded without any errors whatsoever, updated the Database of Binaries 100%, Scanned Binaries for Linking Errors 100% successful and found NO broken files, but still when I attempt to launch it all I get is a blank white Skrooge window with a single Apple menu option in the top left corner of the screen which says "Skrooge".... that's it, nothing else.. (I have a screenshot of the Terminal results but can't work out how to load into this Post).. Can anyone help me, has anyone else had these problems installing Skrooge on MacPorts ![]()

This looks like the Skrooge behaviour when it can't find its plugins. Can you run kbuildsycoca4 in a terminal and try again ? This command should help Skrooge locating them.

Hi, thanks for responding... I'll try to explain what I have done so far and the results :- a) Installed MacPorts, downloaded KmyMoney4 and installed same (I did this because KyMyMoney4 seems to go off and find all of the KDE4 dependencies it needs without creating any further problems). b) Downloaded and installed Skrooge v1.3 with no reported errors. c) Run KyMyMoney4 from the Icon in /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4. (runs perfectly) d) Attempt to run Skrooge from it's Icon in /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4 but all I got was a blank White window appear, the only Menu command available was "Skrooge" in the Main Apple menu bar top left hand corner of the screen. e) I run "kbuildsyccoca4" from the Terminal but this has produced another problem. Now when I attempt to launch Skrooge all I get is a flash of the start up screen "Skrooge v1.3" for less than a second, it then disappears and I have nothing. When I look at the properties of both the KmyMoney and Skrooge Application launch Icons in /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/ KmyMoney has a size of 8MB whereas the Skrooge Icon is only 51KB....... Does that mean that something is missing ? (forgive my ignorance). Can I attempt to install the plugins, if so where are they and how ?

For what it's worth a little extra information...
This is what happens after removing and cleaning Skrooge from MacPorts and then running port selfupdate. From a fresh install of Skrooge, on the first double click of the Skrooge launch icon in /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/ I get a blank white Skrooge window launched all as I previously advised.. (no menus or GUI.) The Terminal reports that "SKG GUI/Plugin" not found... ![]() Now, if I run kbuildsycoca4 the start up sequence changes to a momentary appearance (maybe 1 or 2 seconds) of the Skrooge v1.3 Start Up flash screen, then nothing at all is shown on screen. (Now the Terminal reports "Unable to start Dr. Konqi" ![]() I have the screen shots but can't see how to attach them to this post. ![]()

If it wants to start DrKonqui, it's because Skrooge crashes at launch. DrKonqui is a KDE app that attempts to catch the crash info. It might not be available on your system. OK, but even if Skrooge does not start yet, we made progress ![]() Oh, and to add a screenshot here, you should first post it on a web service such as imagebin, and then paste its address between two img tags. Should do something like this :

Hi gdebure,
This is the 3rd screenshot for your viewing... This is the result of:- Uninstalling Skrooge, re-installing and running kbuildsycoca4 then launching Skrooge. As you can see it's some progress but as soon as you try to use any Menu of Skrooge the whole lot closes down.. http://imagebin.org/213958 Regards, Ron.

Moving to the Mac forum, as this is *very* specific to this platform, and I have no knowledge of it... If one of the MacPorts guru could be so kind as to give us a hand here, would be greatly appreciated
