Mac OSX lion 10.7.4 plasma

Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:39 pm
Hello all, This is the first unix build ive done of KDE4 :D and have it running happily on all my other *nix systems as well as my windows system >:D . I have compiled all the binaries available for kde4 in the macports downloads and compiled i have a multitude of GUI apps that all launch and run fine but im failing to see how to launch plasmapkg
with kde3 it would be:
Code: Select all
startx
startkde

the startkde seems to have moved/been modified/been removed for kdesdk4 or im missing the final compilation step that is NOT shared on the macports or install notes for the site i would like to replace my "finder" (aqua) with the plasma desktop manager on my macintosh... i have tried all kinds of xinitrc changes and trying to call to binaries manually via x11.. i tried xfree86 as suggested in other forums but it appears that most the information available is outdated
i have tried kdeinit4... via x11 and via the terminal.. no avail.. it spits out a slew of errors having to do with not being called to in the right fashion

Image
Code: Select all
kdeinit4 kdeinit4.shell
sh-3.2# ./kdeinit4
sh-3.2# Error: "/var/folders/l3/6t5w5pf15s97nkhqjp_8fdhm0000gn/T//ksocket-bryansmith" is owned by uid 501 instead of uid 0.
kdeinit4: Shutting down running client.
QIODevice::setTextModeEnabled: The device is not open
Dynamic session lookup supported but failed: launchd did not provide a socket path, verify that org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist is loaded!
klauncher(11682) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!

This is the error when ran as root ^^

the following is when ran as user...
Code: Select all

Bryans-Mac-Pro:macos bryansmith$ ./kdeinit4
Bryans-Mac-Pro:macos bryansmith$ Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)

and it sits and hangs there doing nothing... using the mac to browse KDE is a new thing for me i tried the kde3 and got it up and going within 2 hours of compilation but am unable to start the KDE4 environment IE: plasam desktop manager

is this something thats included for mac osx?
if it is how can i call to it to start the plasma environment
the dbus has been started as called by the instructions and i also placed it in my ~/.profile so its done on boot or when i open my terminal

if anyone can offer assistance it would be greatly appreciated as im tired of looking at this ugly mac finder :( but have no choice in OS on the machine due to outside influences..

startkde should be part of kde-workspace.
KDE processes should be run as a normal user rather than root.

KDE Workspace is intended for use on a X11 system, so the compile errors may be related.
Could you pastebin the error messages?
