Installing KDE using Mac HomeBrew

Dear forum members,

I've recently returned from ... an extended sabbatical you might say ... and the current state of KDE on the mac is a bit confusing to me.
Could anyone explain what the situation is? Has anyone here succeeded in compiling the latest stable release on the mac?
If so, which version: 10.7, 10.8?
