Hi All I'v just got interested in KDE now that its available on the mac as a kind of framework, I'v briefly used it on BSD in the past but didn't give it a chance because of the windows feel. I moved to the mac about two years ago after the Intel switch which ment I could still use windows apps like Solidworks in BootCamp (I'm a product design engineer and can't wait for OSX Siemens NX6 to be released). Anyway the one thing I completely took for granted in windows was MSpaint and there's just no substitute on the mac until now! I'v tried all the simple raster editors I could find, pixen, seashore, paintbrush etc. even Painting in Apple works 6 but none have the simple functionality of MSpaint. In particular the ability to change the canvas size and image size independently of each other using nothing but drag handles. I find this indispensables and missing from all other editors except Kolourpaint. I think Kolourpaint could become the defacto bitmap editor for people who have migrated from Windows (most people) and who need a simple one in OSX. This in turn will lead to people learning about kde and its other apps like kruler which I just found and like, also now that I have KDE on my mac I might give Amarok a go (which I wouldn't otherwise do as I haven't been looking for a replacement for Itunes). Anyway despite all this optimism Kolourpaint is not working properly yet on my mac (but it will I'm sure). I installed the KDE 4.1.2 packages on my macbook 1.83G Intel Core Duo 1GB ram Intel GMA 950 ![]() It loads and looks good but the white canvas does not appear and can't properly be drawn on! (although the invisible canvas can be cropped using the drag ![]() I don't know if this is an issue with the Kolourpaint package in KDE 4.1.2 (which I know is in an early alpha stage) or if the problem lies in my install? That's why I started this tread, to here other users experiences with Kolourpaint on the mac! Thanks, KDE on the mac looks very promising! |

Good news: It's not a bug in the package.
Bad news: kolourpaint looks like that when you compile it yourself too. Solution: bug report @ bugs.kde.org. Don't forget to add your OS and a screenshot ![]()
illogical, proud to be a member of KDE forums since 2008-Sep.
