I used this code to install java
But then it showed this message
What can I do then? Note: The instructions at java.com on installing java for linux are wrong. I have tried that option already. |

This is likely due to the changed license conditions of Java now that it is owned by Oracle. I recommend you try installing Iced Tea Java instead.

maybe icedtea is already installed
the command dpkg --list | grep icedtea will tell you which icedtea packages are installed the command dpkg --list | grep java will tell you which, if any, java packages are installed |

Please be aware that Iced Tea is a open source implementation equivalent of Oracle Java, and as such should be compatible with most Java applications.
You should only need to install Sun/Oracle Java if you are experiencing issues with Iced Tea.

Hello. For 99 pct. of Java needs, installing openjdk-6-jre will get you what you need. If you need the Proprietatry Oracle version, it's available via repositories if you look around.

Have you tried launching Firefox as described (in a terminal) and posting the terminal output here?
Also, can you provide the output of this command from a terminal?
You can use Konsole as a terminal app in this case.
