I was wondering if someone might be able to answer my question.
I have downloaded Backtrack 5 r2 a couple weeks ago. I notice that it has KDE - Be Free!
Platform Version 4.5.3 (KDE 4.5.3)

A New version of KDE has came out. How would I be able to upgrade to the new version or would that cause problems if I did?

as package management is distribution specific I would suggest asking about upgrades on the Backtrack forum.
