KDE, Games and Mouse side buttons!

Sun Jun 02, 2013 2:31 am
Hello,

I need some help with my problem. I'm using PCLinuxOS with KDE 10.1 and I have a problem being able to program any mouse side buttons while playing any steam source game. When I'm not gaming the forward and back feature works. When I drop into a game the forward and back still wants to work thus not letting me program the button for something else. I have narrowed it down to a KDE problem because I can log into LXDE and XFCE and the side buttons will work fine. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

How did you get the forward and back buttons to work - do they work in KDE applications as well? If you use something like xbindkeys, you could try to exit the application before you start the game.

Well after all the time I have spent trying to fix my problem, xbindkeys was the culprit. :< Xbindkeys is installed by default in PCLinuxOS. I unistall xbindkeys and that fixed the problem. :) Thanks for the help! o)

No problem. Won't you lose your mouse button shortcuts now though? You can easily quit xbindkeys with e.g.
Code: Select all
killall xbindkeys

So far I haven't. My mouse does everything I need it to do.

One of the things I did not mention was that I was only having this problem with PCLinuxOS. My mouse worked fine in Kubuntu, Mageia and openSUSE. All three of those distro's don't have xbindkeys installed and thats why I unistalled xbindkeys in PCLinuxOS.

Well as long as you're happy it's good. :)
