Problems after reinsall kubuntu 13.10 + current updates:
Using kubuntu 13.10 plus current updates, AMD 64 bit Quad Processor memory After complete re-install of kubuntu 13.10, & have all the latest updates, here's a few problems I encountered that did not occur in my previous install. PROBLEM 1 Have just downloaded latest System updates. On reboot, this was displayed: Gave up waiting for root device - missing modules (cat /proc/modules: ls .dev ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/ f42 ecd94-902c-4b8e-b594-554d70blecf3 does not exist. =dev/sdc1 TYPE="ext4" Partition table entries are not in disk order (initramfs) I typed exit Got the login prompt, logged in & kubuntu loaded OK.. How can I correct this? PROBLEM 2
PROBLEM 3 Ownership of Folder &/or documents. Many documents open OK - A few will not open Changed ownership of some folders (were root) to my ownership. Some docs still won't open. QUESTION: How can I change all folder settings at once?? & what does Special settings do. PROBLEM 4 APT Key Manager: This file does not exist! How can I create it ?? PROBLEM 5 After shutdown & reboot, or restart, there appears anywhere from 2 – 25 small windows of my screensaver filling one of 2 desktop monitors. All are active! Am using kocensaver. On normal timed activation, my dual screens are different. When I run it in test mode, both monitors act as one big screen, which is what I want. How can I correct thsi? Nvidia version: Additional Drivers - nvidia-_319 PROBLEM 6 Previously I was able to create desktop shortcuts of documents by dragging. I can still create them, but they are inactive. Is this anything to do with symlinking? I found this symlink command, & works perfectly opening from the folder, but won't open from a Desktop shortcut!! How come? bumpy@bumpyputer:~/Documents/Accounting$ sudo ln -s ~/Documents/Accounting/Accounting_Records_MASTER.ods ~/Desktop/Banking3 PROBLEM 7 -Wicd My /Home/.wicd folder is empty
PROBLEM 8 Error Message: Sorry-Plasma Desktop Shell KDEinit could not launch '/usr/bin/su-to-root' |

For problems 1, 2 and 4 those are specific to Kubuntu, so I would suggest opening a thread on their forum about that.
For problem 3, running "sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` /home/yourUsername/" should fix the issue. For problem 5, please use "System Activity" (accessible through the second icon from the left in KRunner) to kill any *.kss processes. Problem 6 could be related to permissions, so please fix that first. For problem 7, your system should be using Network Management by default, rather than Wicd. Are there any problems with Wifi connectivity at the moment which would lead you to remove NetworkManager and install Wicd? For problem 8, that is a non-standard executable name. You'll need to trace which application, autostart job, etc. this is coming from to eliminate this i'm afraid. What triggers this window to open?

It's a known bug. Even worse is that these multiple screensaver instances will be running at all times, eating up CPU power (I had 50% usage when I noticed). There's also a bug filed for this, but it's four-years old. It pains me, but I just totally disable the screensaver. |

Thanks for your reply. For some strange reason, it has not done that over the last few days! Here's hoping!!
