True-Type Font ignored in applications

I have just added a few ttf fonts to my (Mageia 4) system. One of them is Arial Light, a non-microsoft font.
In KDE's font list it appears to be shown as an item below 'Arial' as 'Extra Light' but it cannot be seen in applications, Can this be overcome? TIA |
