hi again,
i am on to something but i will need help with this. it seems to be a speaker (the left one, built in). today it is worse, just like a permanent morse code sequence. i opened the "audio hardware setup" in the control panel, and if i turn to "OFF" the built in audio and then turn it back to "analog stereo duplex" (default), it stops, or nearly completely. as soon as i try to watch a video, it starts all over again.. if i have the volume control open, the buttons just flick up and down (even though i have them all muted) is it only that my speaker is going..? is there a way to just turn sound off and not hear it ? (muting does not shut it off) thanks. |

This sounds like a Pulseaudio issue. Please logout of KDE, kill all instances of "pulseaudio" then remove ~/.pulse* and ~/.config/pulse/ from all user accounts on your system.

hi,
i am a bit of a beginner. i know how to log out, but how do i "kill" all instances of pulseaudio ? is it done using the konsole ? what commands shall i type in ? thanks |

The following commands should do what is needed:
Ensure you do this at a failsafe terminal, or virtual terminal. Running them in Konsole may not be effective - as Pulseaudio might automatically respawn.

hi,
i tried doing that. logged out, and went into the virtual terminal. for the first command, i got a "no process found" for the other two, nothing. then i checked in the system monitor, and there are two processes called pulseaudio.. does it make any sense ? the morse sound continues. |

pulseaudio may not be running if there is no desktop environment (KDE) running so no process would exist
the 2 rm commands will not provide feedback there is normally only 1 pulse audio process running per user |

you're using a laptop? what happens if you connect headphones, does it override the speakers and does it have the morse code sound?

something to try - change your phonon backend
you have a choice of gstreamer or vlc, switch to the one not being used you may have to install the packages then restart KDE |

hi,
i had to install the vlc. then restarted and prefered it as a beckend. but no change i am afraid. thanks. |

there is something i tried:
when the morse sound goes crazy / very fast and constant, in phonon, i went to the hardware setup tab, and in the built in audio chose "OFF" in the profile. then i turn it back to analog stereo duplex and the sound stops. any ideas ? |

no good ones but I would force a re-install all pulseaudio and phonon packages, not sure how to do that on Kubuntu but assume something like Muon -> search for _______ installed packages -> select all -> re-install
