Next time the unusual sound starts, please start "pavucontrol" and observe the bars beneath the volume sliders. Do this on both the "Playback" and "Output Devices" tabs. Whichever application is showing as producing sound at this time is a likely candidate for producing the issue - so try closing it to determine if this is the case.
If nothing is shown as producing sound on the Playback tab, and nothing is visible on the Output Devices tab, then this is likely caused by either Pulseaudio itself (a conclusion supported by changing the audio profile fixing the issue).

this time i messed it up a bit...
i took you r advice and manually erased all of the PulseAudio programms, using the MUON software center. then, for some reason i closed MUON and could not open it again for reinstallation... i tried to restart the computer and it would not get any further from the Kubuntu page... i managed to go into the virtual terminal (ctrl+alt+F1) but i need to know what to type there. could i just run MUON from there and reinstall all the programms ? please advise. thanks, Guy. |

Okay, now that your system has been reinstalled - can you please list the problems that are still affecting you?

hi there,
so basically we are back to square one, same problem as described before. i will try to give you all the detail i can think of. when the screen is still black, with the Kubuntu logo, it sounds a couple of times (before it gets to the password screen). that happens EVERY TIME. then, sometimes it sounds just a little bit, sometimes, non stop (like a machine gun). it seems to bypass the speakers system somehow, because when i put all the volumes control down, it still sounds. if i plug in head phones, it only sounds through the headphones (we are talking laptop). when it sounds, if i have the volume control panel open, i can see the left control button (Built in audio analog stereo), jumping up and down along with the sounds (even if muted). also, if i have open the Phonon control panel and i choose the AUDIO HARDWARE SETUP, i can see the connector changing quickly between HEADPHONES and ANALOG OUTPUT, to the speed of the sound. today, i turned the computer on and the sound started sounding non stop. i managed to quiet it down by closing all i had open (browser and libre office app) and then on Phonon, change the sound card profile to OFF and then back to ANALOG STEREO DUPLEX. this sound was never there before i updated to the new Kubuntu version about a week ago. the only other problem i can notice is the computer slower then before (loading pages, saving data, etc.) this is all i can think of right now, thanks, Guy. |

also, it is near impossible to watch a video (tried on both Chrome and Fire Fox), it gets noisy.
could it be a sound or video card problem ? |

do you have another OS installed or a livecd to test if the issue is hardware or your install |

Can you please provide a video of the volume control panel behaving oddly, along with the output of "pactl list" when this is occurring?

i started the computer in the windows xp partition and watch a video there.
it was fine, no such noise. so i guess it is not a hardware problem. |
