hi everyone,
i updated my Kubuntu to the new version yesterday and things are not going well.. my CPU works at 100 % almost all the time and the computer is very slow. i noticed a new file in my HOME file that was not there before. it contains 506606 items (!) and seems extremely heavy. it is called u1ZGQHOHD3... there is an update which will not update..(aglfn).. also, once in a while the computer makes a sound it never made before (not through the audio), that sounds a bit like a machine gun firing. i am no expert at all ! is any of this normal after an update ? can i just erase this strange new file ? please help. Guy. p.s. the strange file i mentioned above is acting strange. it is the only one within Dolphin that gets the computer stuck. all the others seem to open normally as before. i will later attach a screen shot of its properties.

run ksysguard to see what process(es) is using the cpu? you might also add the io read and write columns to show if io is also slowing your machine (right click any column header in ksysguard and the click "show IO read" ,,,)
you mean a folder contains 506606 items? can you list the names of a couple of the files aglfn is some Adobe font thingy, is there an error message when you try and update it? moved to Operating Specific -> Linux |

hi,
there is no error message with the update, no. it just starts and goes back to the beginning after a short while. this file, as soon as i touch it, to open it or see its properties just slows down Dolphin completely. it shows 350 K/s on the IO read. as soon as i manage to open it, i will tell you which files are in it. |

re update - how are you doing the update? in Konsole try running
ksysguard - what is using 100% cpu the file - in Konsole run
- it's named like a temp file used by an app but i have no idea what app is, you might want to query on the Kubuntu forum as it might be a product of the upgrade - you should stop trying to view the folder in Dolphin 1/2 million files is way too extreme |

to get a list of the first 25 files in that folder in Konsole run
is it runs forever use ctrl+c to quit it ps - if you end up deleting it using Dolphin will probably take a long time you'll want to use the command line |

to remove the folder and it's contents in Konsole run:
your cpu should be closer to 0% then 20%, what processes are using cpu? |

if you try doing it in Dolphin it will probably take forever |

it seems to take a long time this way too.
the CPU is back to 100 % from what i can tell from the IO read, the rm, Dolphin and the baloo file are the ones with most bytes read. |

as long as rm shows in the processes it means it is removing the file ?

yes, there's 500k of unkown files
baloo is indexing the files in that folder as they're in your home folder, you should suspend baloo for a bit - systemsettings -> desktop search advanced -> suspend and also close dolphin then restart it |
