Help! Stuck in Kubuntu!

Wed Apr 22, 2015 7:41 pm
Hi everyone,
I have KDE installed on my Ubuntu laptop, but just recently, none of the leave commands except for "lock screen" work. The only way for me to log out or shut down my computer is to kill it with the power button. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I need to be able to log out of Kubuntu!
Thanks in advance.

Code: Select all
shutdown -h now
should do the trick.

Please give us more info: Did it work before? What did you do before it stopped working? Are you working as a different user now?

Also have a look at systemsettings - login screen - shutdown and check the entry under local. What does it say?

It was working about a week ago. I don't remember doing anything that might cause it to start doing this. I am not working as a different user. Apparently, this issue is bug #1000690 on Launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-workspace/+bug/1000690)
I don't see an option for "local" under system settings.
Thanks!

Hm, if it is a known bug in Kubuntu you may be better off in http://www.kubuntuforums.net - they are a knowledgeable and friendly enough bunch of users over there. You may also want to consider calling up kdesu systemsettings in krunner. That will run systemsettings at root level and you will be able to see the settings I mentioned in my first post.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: If it is all no good, enter the shutdown command I posted in the first post with "sudo" in front of it.
