I had kubuntu 15.04 all set up and working the way I wanted and been using it for a month or so. Yesterday i tried to connect the computer to a TV using HDMI cable, this did not work and only resulted in strange artefacts on both screens and I had to disconnect the HDMI cable and restart in order to get it working again on my computer monitor. The problem is that after this restart I now only have a black desktop background and also it seems like plasma is not working anymore. I have no task bar, I cannot right click on the desktop and so on. Also after every restart the same applications I had open before I rebooted the first time (after disconnecting the HDMI cable) starts up. I tried to delete .cache in home folder but it made no difference.

Could really need some help with this. So annoying to have everything configured and running the way you want it only to find it being messed up by connecting a HDMI cable!
