Hello KDE community,

I have installed another linux on same machine with a single, shared /home partition. First linux had KDE, second linux has openbox. Now first linux is trying to run openbox after login and fails. How can I fix this ?

Hi
You should use separate users (or at least usernames) for different desktop environments / window managers. Fixing it means just switching the session in ArchWiki:SDDM and let Plasma do the work. If this does not help, you should have a look at the default XServer configuration files like ~/.xinit.

If then both users have the uid 1000 (which would be default in most linux installations) you can easily share common folders by e.g. setting up the same folders using XDG User Directories.

Thanks for your reply koffeinfriedhof. I am currently using MDM not SDDM, and I have no .xinit file in my ~/.

I don't know mdm. Just have a look at the manpage oder Wiki on how to set the session login.

edit: I just realized that you mentioned mdm already in the title… my bad o)

Code: Select all
$ grep openbox ~/.* 2>/dev/null
.dmrc:Session=openbox
$ mv .dmrc .dmrc-

Fixed ! apparently this file is somehow read by KDE.
