I am brand new to Linux type systems. During installation of Xandros, I believe I selected a UK Keyboard layout. I cannot use this machine for network activity, because in place of @ I get ". I need to know how to configure the keyboard for US. (I think).
Can somebody help? I also have audio software (Rosegarden an Qtractor), which I believe need to be compiled, along with numerous LADSPA and ALSA files which I believe are necessary. I desperately need some know how in this area. Thanks in anticipation, Stan Peterson. |

The main difference between the British and American keyboard is indeed @ and ". They are interchanged. Type " where you would expect it on the American version and your British keyboard will spit out @ and the other way round.
Try it

If you go into System settings and find Regional you will have the choice of changing your keyboard layout.
I assume you have installed a particular distro. In which case check whether your distro has already packaged a version of Rosegarden that you can install without the hassle of using the source.

Check in KMenu -> System Settings -> Regional & Language -> Keyboard Layout. Click "Enable keyboard layouts", and from the left column, select USA and click on the right arrow key next to "Available layouts". Similarly, remove the UK layout.
