Hello

I have a Thinkpad w700. I'm running Mandriva with KDE 4.1.
I am having a few problems. First off KDE seems to be VERY VERY greedy when it comes to 2D window graphics. I run maya a 3D app and if I need to resize a window I can wait around 30 to 60 seconds for a refresh. I'm running the NVIDIA drivers.

Second problem I'm having is the digital tablet. I works only in relative mode like a mouse. I would need it to work in absolute mode.

Last but not least is the scroll pad. If I touch the scroll pad my mouse goes wild up and down. I can only stop it if I hold the RMB on the scroll pad.

Other then that, things are compatible.

Thanks for any help

These all sound like X problems. I believe there is a thread on the forums about problems with NVidia drivers. I believe it is currently best if you run the latest bleeding edge NVidia beta.

Digital tablet - Mandriva should have configuration for this in its control center, their should be a selection for the mode, although it probably won't be named that.

Scrollpad - No idea. could probably be solved in the control center as well, might also pay to check the mouse sensitivity in System Settings ( KDE 4 Control Center also known as Personal Settings )

Thanks for the reply.

I don't want to get a bleeding edge driver... Just don't want to go in that direction.

For the tablet... didn't find anything. I can find wacom drivers... but it doesn't seem to see my tablet.

I looked in the KDE settings for the scroll pad... and found nothing...

There are reports here of a massive speed boost with the latest beta drivers ( I do not think Nvidia has released a single Linux stable driver )

I believe there are other drivers other than wacom for tablets. The Mandriva configuration center should have a place for configuring "Graphics" which is where you will probably find Mouse / Keyboard / Touchscreen config as well.

I've have been using Mandriva AKA Mandrake since version 5. I know my way around.
You can config the mouse or trackpad. but you need to get a special rpm package to adjust the wacom. I did this before but the w700 tablet is not recognized as a wacom.

That is why I was wondering if KDE had some special config tools.

I will give the beta NVIDIA drivers a try...

Thanks

KDE at this time does not have any Touchscreen configuration tools, at least not that are officially shipped.

Could you please post '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' and the output of 'lspci'?
Thanks.

The w700 does not have a touchscreen. it has a digital tablet... like a wacom tablet device.

The system according to thinkwiki seems to be fairly recent.

Do you know the specific hardware revision and model number of the Touchscreen ( Digitizer )? A workaround may be available ( lspci should list it )

With regard to the mouse pointer becoming uncontrollable when the scrolling area is used, this issue is noted here. No solution was provided unfortunately :-(

The information about the hardware is very limited. It's to new yet... most people do know about the system very well even in IBM tech support.
