I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 KDE4, have no this problem in the beginning. I don't know when, appears the problem.
The problem description: Use ls /home/viki (viki is my username) command in the terminal, can display the contents including some files and folders. But in the file manager or Konqueror( konqueror is a good file explorer and web explorer in KDE), entry the path /home/viki/, nothing can be displayed. But, after input the path /home/viki/Documents in the address bar of Konqueror directly, the contents nuder the folder Documents can be displayed rightly. And right-click the folder viki in the folder home, and choice the "Attribute", the size always display "calculating the size ... 0 B (0), 0 folders, 0 sub-folders". I'm a chinese, and my english is poor, so please excuse for my mistake! Thanks! See the picture follow:

Do you have this problem with other file managers? try to install nautilus for example..
Does it just happen in Konqueror? Or in all KDE aplications? or everywhere except the terminal?

If you open Konsole, then change directory to "/home/" and perform a listing of all files, what do you get?

You may have found some bug(s) in KDE. You will probably be able to correct this issue for the home folder display by switching back to the "Icons" view.
This can be done by changing into the affected folder, opening the View menu, entering the "View Mode" sub-menu and selecting the Icons view. Regarding the properties view, this is a bug in it as well. Please report these two bugs in the KDE Bugzilla. the problem is related to character encoding.

This either means you have found bugs in both ( unlikely ) or you are missing some files on your system related to your locale. I would recommend checking with your distribution for which packages you are missing.

Yes, you can try to restore your system but probably one clean install would be better option.
Before installing again: check md5 sum for the ISO before writing it to a DVD and also when you've finished with the writing. Check your media before installation (this option is in openSUSE installer). If you need information about checking md5/writing DVDs/media checking take a look to: http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/401696-newbies-suse-11-1-pre-installation-please-read.html. Good luck. |

Alternately, you could just ask in the openSUSE forums about this problem, and ask them what packages you need to install to complete localise your system ( probably appropriate fonts )

Thanks very much everyone!!! I will go to openSUSE forums for help!!
I find a bug about KDE, I don't know if I can describe it clearly. it's that when my application need open a file, for example, I want to attach a location file to my email, and open the window which to choose a file, the window is smaller, I drag ti to bigger for finding the files, but when I click a folder, the window will change to smaller as original, it changes to original size after open a folder, and I need to drag ti bigger every time. It's terrible experience! I don't know you if can understand my meaning, and if you encounter this problem???

Your description is fine. I would recommend creating a new post in the Developers section about the issue described above, as I was unable to reproduce it in Konqueror, KMail, etc. When you do please include links to Source Code, etc.
