Hello
I am on openSUSE 11.0 with KDE 4.1.3 "release 67.1" and I currently use the following repositories to keep the system updated: /repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.0/ /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0/ /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.0/ /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop/ /repositories/KDE:/Community/openSUSE_11.0/ /repositories/KDE:/Backports/openSUSE_11.0/ I am not sure if I need all these repositories. Are there any I can get rid off? As soon as KDE 4.2 is released I like to update, which repositories do I need to add/change? Since I like to use these repositories for a productive machine - I like to go with the stable tree of KDE 4.2 I do not want to run a 4.3 beta.. Hope that someone can help me to understand what I need. Thanks a lot Michael

If you want to upgrade NOW to KDE 4.2beta then: Add all factory repositories: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories#KDE_4.1_Factory_Development. /repositories/KDE:/Community/openSUSE_11.0/ /repositories/KDE:/Backports/openSUSE_11.0/ You don't need KDE 3.5.x repositories ^^. Do not forget to disable KDE 4.1.3 repos before upgrading. If you want to upgrade when KDE4.2 comes out then: Actually you don't need to do anything, because KDE4.2 will be moved to Factory. Just like a simple update. Good luck.

I don't think that is right. If I recall correctly, Stable contains the latest stable version of KDE4 at the time of the most recent opensuse release. So Stable will remain 4.1.3 until the next opensuse release (11.2 I guess). Factory contains the most recent stable KDE4 release right now (which is also 4.1.3 but will soon be 4.2). Unstable contains the latest unstable KDE4 version (trunk until the release of the first alpha, then alphas, beta, and RC's until the final release when it goes back to trunk).
So you want to keep what you already have. You don't currently need the QT repository, in fact it can cause problems so it is better not to have it. The Community and Backports repositories are for KDE 3, you shouldn't have them unless you have specific KDE 3 apps that you want from them.

Nope! I'm pointed to Factory repositories and not to STABLE!
The Qt repository is needed if you want upgrade to KDE4.2beta. When the KDE4.2 comes out the Qt will be also moved into oss repo. |

Hello
I just tried it out FACTORY is currently pointing to (KDE 4.1.3) "release 69.3" so I assume that STABLE is the "frozen" stable, shiped version at the time of the openSUSE release. So 11.0 would be 4.0.x and 11.1 would be 4.1.3 UNSTABLE is the development trunk according to the opensuse page: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories#...evelopment. Since I have now all pointing to FACTORY I assume that I will just need to wait for KDE 4.2 to come by the 27th ++ Thanks a lot for the help Michael PS I need the QT libs as an extra repository
