Sat Jan 17, 2009 6:26 pm
i try to used the kde-packeges from archlinux testing (f.e. http://darkstar.ist.utl.pt/archlinux/testing/os/i686/) on my samsung nc10 netbook after the success on my big computer.
but on my netbook it doesn't work. i see the kdm-splash (4 the icons), but than i get an grey desktop without any panel, widget etc... i can't do something, i must restart the X-server (ctrl+alt+back)

-has anybody an idea? i deleted my .kde and my .kde4 directory, but it doesn't change enything.

would be great to get some help, and i hope this is the right board.

i have 2 partitions (/ and /boot), /boot is 45% full and / 71% -so this should work.
is there any posibility to get some "kde-logs"?

It sounds like Plasma is failing to start. Could you try and open Konsole, then check if Plasma is running ( pidof plasma ). If it is not could you try and start it ( plasma & ). If Plasma is already running the first try and gracefully close it ( kquitapp plasma ) and if that fails force it to close ( killall plasma ) then open it again.

You could also try and rebuild KDE's list of plugins / applications / etc ( kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental )

hej, the idea to rebuild kde's list of plugins etc helped. i had also the problem, that my /var/tmp wasn't big enough (it must > 400MB)

thanks for your help.
