I'll start by saying that I really like the way 4.2 is progressing and some of the widgetsare proving invaluable to me but I've run into an issue that's been present for me in both 4.2 beta 2 and the current 4.2 RC. The only time I've noticed it is in the situation I'm about to describe so I can't vouch for it happening any other times.
I added the Twitter widget and it seems to work fine but when I configure it the KDE wallet pops up to ask me for password information to create a secure wallet. At that point if I try to enter anything or take more than about 3 seconds (not an exaggeration) the whole plasma interface will crash out and reload. I can produce this error all the time without fail just by doing the above. I have managed to get around it but it meant I had to cancel the wallet creation and quickly click to store the password info in the configuration file. If I'm fast enough to do those two steps then it will load fine and run smoothly. If I'm not fast enough then plasma again crashes and I have to try to enter my details for the Twitter widget again and do the process faster. I've also noticed an issue with another widget, the LCD weather widget, where it will not load information after a reboot and I can only fix it by either removing and adding the widget again or by opening its settings, removing the location and then adding it again. Neither solution is particularly hard but it's an inconvenience and extra steps where there shouldn't be any. Computer information... Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 RC (also same error on 4.2 beta 2) Core 2 Duo 1.5GHz 2Gb DDR 667 RAM Intel X3100 GMA graphics (bleh I know) I could add more specs but I think those are all that would be needed. Any more information needed I'll happily provide as long as you can tell me how to get it! I would've filed this as a bug report but I don't know where to start with that and I want to be sure it's not an issue with my laptop first. |

OK this might be of some help, but I'm not sure: solved-plasma-cras ... 24764.html It might be just something with those two widgets.

Hmm I wish it was that simple but that really points to an nVidia driver issue and my laptop is an integrated Intel 965 chipset, the X3100 GMA. I have no issues on KDE 4.1 but these widgets aren't there so I don't know if it's a problem with the new widgets, a problem with the 4.2 plasma, a problem with both or something entirely different. The only thing in the thread you link to that is similar is that I get no meaningful information when it crashes, the whole desktop vanishes momentarily then reloads and continues on its way. There's only the information to file a bug report at http://bugs.kde.org and nothing else that would help me writing a bug report. |

Anyone else manage to crash their 4.2 RC1 doing the following:
On "Desktop" right click and choose: Add Widget ... "Add Widget" labeled window opens. In bottom of the new window there is a "drop down" -box named "Install New Widgets". From that "drop down" -box choose: Download New Google Gadgets "Gadget Browser" named window appears. Now, close the "Add Widget" -window and after close the "Gadget Browser" -window. For me plasma crashes every time after closing the windows in the above order. Does it happen to someone else too?

Thanks for that link! I went to file the report and found that I'm not the only one that has the issue. It seems there is a way to work around it but since it's known I assume it'll be resolved in time |

Anyone having time to check up if the bug is already reported, and if not, report it? :shade:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179312 looks like it may be the same thing. Well, the gg-crashing-plasma thing that is...no details of how to reproduce the crash though.
