I've used the Komparator sync app and Kbackup since about Fedora 6 to sync and backup my laptop over the network using the fish protocol, but after installing Fedora 10 and KDE 4.1.4 neither one works.
I get the warning: Cannot start process Unable to create io-slave: Klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'fish' However I can still connect to my other computer using fish in the Konqueror file browser. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike |

I would guess that Komparator / KBackup are KDE 3 applications. If so, you will need to install the KDE 3 FISH KIO slave somehow ( SRPM from Fedora 9 would be your best bet if KDE 3 is not available )

I installed the following with yum, and both Komparator and Kbackup work again. Many thanks.

If KBackup is a KDE 3 application, then it needs the KDE 3 Fish KIO slave to be able to function. If it is a KDE 4 application, then you need to report a bug to its authors.
