Hey all first post!!
Nice to be here First off I wana start by saying I am pretty new to Linux.. I have only been using it for about a month.. so still very much at the learning stage!! I haev tried several Distros and found Kubuntu to be my favourite... HOWEVER someone recomende Fedora and after reading Linux Format magazine I decided to give Fedora a shot. Unfortunately without much success.. when I tried to install Fedora 10 it installed GNOME rather than KDE... I was happy to see that it found all my ahrdware and instaleld without any problems tho! Even my bluetooth and wireless card were supported! So I was pleased at that.. but GNOME.. well.. reminds me of my old Commodore Amiga A600 Workbench days! haha I have a dual core CPU and 4GB of ram and a 512mb gfx card.. so I think it can handle some eye candy like KDE... I then tried to reinstall but this time I checked through all the settigns and disabled GNOME and selected KDE instead. Installation went well and then my system rebooted. I was then asked to setup an account.. input password etc.. I did that and then again my system rebooted.. then the problem.. the login screen.. the text was HUGE!!!!!!!! I mean 3 letters was all I could see on my screen!! I couldn't select the user profile to then type in the password.. so was stuck there.. can any one help!?! I thought that perhaps if I instaleld Fedora as GNOME.. then used update to install KDE.. then perhaps that would over ride it.. is that the case? Or would I have to uninstall GNOME and replace it with KDE? Like I said.. I am new to Linux so pelase be kind |

This seems to be Fedora issue, I would recommended you to ask on Fedora related forum [1] about Fedora issues. You did not have to reinstall Fedora because of forgetting select KDE, you just needed to install KDE like you install other software.e.g. I prefer konsole and yum:
Fedora installs GNOME by default. I recommend to install both environments to avoid quirks. Try to install GNOME too and you will see what happens. Installing GNOME:

I asked on the fedora forum and my account was blocked and no reason given! *unsure* weird.... 1 post.. asking for help.. and my account was deleted.... odd.. *shrugs*
So.. install BOTH Fedora's GNOME and KDE and then switch from GNOME to KDE display? I tried that and GNOME desktop came on by default. After various configurations I opted to install EVERY package that came with Feb issue of Linux Format.. KDE.. GNOME... and all the packages.. when I booted up.. GNOME came up.. so I presume there is some sort of command to flip over to KDE yeh? |

Quite rude that they deleted your account... must be a mistake. On to your question, in the login screen you can select your Desktop Environment under "Session", select KDE.
I doubt having two desktop environments installed (KDE and GNOME) in Fedora will solve your issue, though. |
