nvidia vs x-server

hi...
currently i'm trying to using kubuntu lastest version. but when i want to installing nvidia driver geforce 9100m g, installation process cannot continue, because my x-sever is active.

how can i make my x-server non-active just for installing nvidia driver?

previously, im trying ubuntu, but when i install nvidia driver, after restart, i cant go to login page...its all blank!
does nvidia support linux???

ctrl+alt+f3, login as root, type "init 3" (no quotes), login as root again.

Yes, their linux support is excellent you are lucky, but absolutely terrible if you aren't. I, unfortunately, am in the latter category, as are a great many other people.
